The Whole Truth

Many studies have demonstrated the health advantages of a diet based on fruits, vegetables, whole grains and legumes left in as natural a state as possible. These foods are called Whole Foods.

Whole Foods have no or very little packaging and processing. When you eat them you are getting the full nutrients and benefits of the food rather than just what is left over after ‘refinement’ and processing.

Some nutritious foods still require processing to be edible eg. Kidney Beans, but other highly processed foods like potato chips and soft drinks should be avoided due to the amount of added salt and sugar they contain. With whole foods you know exactly what you’re getting, there are no hidden nasties. Eating clean and fresh unprocessed whole food helps you look and feel healthy inside and out.

  1. I appreciate how you have simplified the explanation of a Whole Foods diet. I find my difficulty is not in the concept as much as in the execution. I’m curious if you or any of your readers find old habits and mindset to be a major obstacle in this diet change. (My apologies if you have addressed this in a prior post)

    • Breaking habits is always the hardest part! Food plays so many roles for us, you definitely have to be motivated to change. Finding recipes that you will enjoy is the key. I still do things like burrito bowls etc. You can have fun with it, it doesnt have to be boring you just need to plan a bit more 😊
